Winery News

We are very excited to tell you our 2006 Pinot Noir was released on September 15, 2008. The wine is getting rave reviews and a lot of attention. In the next newsletter we'll post some of the wonderful press we've had and you'll be able to read some "celebrity tasting notes".

While there's a lot of action on the wine tasting front, it is "nap time" in the vineyard. This is our dormant season when the vines are sleeping and awaiting Spring with its warm weather and bud break. However, that isn't stopping us from preparing now by pruning the vines and repositioning the trellis wires to the ground. When the new shoots start growing they will form the canopy that will be held in place by these wires.

We are also getting our farming equipment in tip-top shape so it is all ready to go when we need it next.

A Glass of Pinot Noir a Day Helps Keep the Doctor Away

Pinot Noir lovers interested in reducing their risk of heart disease will be thrilled to know this varietal of wine may be one of the best medicines. Recent research shows a substance called Resveratrol, a polyphenolic compound found in the skin and seeds of grapes used to make wine, has promising heart-healthy benefits and is a potentially life-enhancing natural substance.

Resveratrol is found in all red wines but is at its highest and most consistently elevated levels in Pinot Noir. When grapes are stressed, mostly by fungi that typically attack in cool damp climates, Reservatrol is produced.  This antioxidant helps protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart, thereby reducing "bad" cholesterol and preventing the arteries from becoming clogged with fatty blockages.

Research analyzed by Florida based preventive  cardiologist, Seth J. Baum, also suggests  Resveratrol  may be helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, may inhibit tumor development in some cancers, and  may actually prolong life.

The American Heart Association doesn't recommend that you start drinking alcohol just to prevent heart disease. However, moderate drinking (two glasses a day for men and one glass a day for women) does have positive research surrounding its studies.

Sutrine (Ramano-Parmesan Crepes)

- 1 egg

- 2 cups of water

- 1 cup of flour

- Salt and pepper

- 1 cup of parmesan cheese

- 1/2 cup of romano cheese

- Olive oil

Mix the flour, water, egg and salt to obtain a very liquid batter. In a separate bowl, mix the two cheeses and the pepper.

Heat some olive oil in a nonstick frying pan. Pour about one ladle of batter on the pan.

Turn the pan around to allow the batter to cover the bottom evenly. After a minute or two flip the crepe to the other side to evenly brown both sides. Remove from the pan.

Sprinkle the cheeses onto the crepe. Roll. Keep warm.
